Howlin’ Zum Wolf
For some time I have been casually calling by some of the Munich cocktail bars and bar Zum Wolf in Pestalozzistr has been a favorite. It likely has something to do with the non-stop blues songs, the darker red tinted atmosphere, numerous old blues album covers all over the walls, funky little signs about loaded guns and girls in bikinis, a little ‘please ring for whisky’ bell on the wall of one of the booths and a clock on the wall with who cares time. According to Wolf, it’s the only music worth listening to and, for me, I mostly agree since I’m a long time blues lover.
So after speaking with Wolf a while back and after entering his wrong phone number in my iPhone (could have been the whisky) I eventually caught up with him again and decided to do couple of portraits. After finishing my office job on Friday afternoon I rolled up on my cargo bike with a Hasselblad, some film and a light. Setting up took ten mins and a nice cold one. It was about 6pm and the light coming in from the window was getting low, so I setup an umbrella soft light high on the right with one flash, cross checked the exposure on my digital camera then shot 1 roll of Ilford HP5. This is one of those frames, developed in Rodinal, scanned and with some contrast added. Love the portrait. Thanks for the good times, Wolfi.
